Jana G. Garrotto is Shareholder in our Trust & Estate Planning Practice Group with nearly 30 years’ experience. She is focused on protecting her clients’ goals for distribution of a variety of assets and family business interests. This entails customized and comprehensive planning for each client.
Such transactions often require the drafting of trusts, wills and durable powers of attorney, making health care surrogate designations, strategizing charitable giving, and establishing guardianships.
When business interests are involved, Ms. Garrotto is also well versed in related legal areas, including: real estate transactions, intellectual property protections, business succession planning, and corporate and estate tax minimization. She has worked with clients at all phases of family business planning – from the setup of the most appropriate legal structure for growth and continued success, to devising efficient exit strategies – all with an eye to her clients’ costs, income and retirement goals.

Before joining Lewitt Hackman, Ms. Garrotto was an estate planning attorney at her own, and other firms in Los Angeles. She first practiced civil, business litigation earlier in her career.
Ms. Garrotto currently serves as a Trustee for the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) Board of Trustees and is a member of the LACBA Nominating Committee (2021-2022). She also serves as a Trustee liaison between the LACBA Trusts and Estates Section Executive Committee and the LACBA Board of Trustees.
Ms Garrotto recently served as the Chair of the LACBA Trust and Estates Section Executive Committee (2020-2021), Vice Chair ( 2019- 2020), and Secretary Treasurer (2018-2019) She is a current member of the as LACBA Trusts and Estates Section Executive Committee and is Co-Chair of the Trusts and Estates Section Member Communications Committee. Ms. Garrotto serves as the senior editor of LACBA’s Trusts and Estates Section’s monthly ebulletin.
She attended San Francisco State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and English Literature. Ms. Garrotto earned her Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
